Entreprenuer in the Making: Layla

Entrepreneur in the making: Layla. Laya has been part of the ACTS family since she was in 1st grade. She also joined some ACTS outings at an even younger age with some of her older siblings and relatives in the early years of ACTS being formed. Now as a 7th grader there have been some exciting developments in Layla’s life. She has always loved art and creating many forms of art. Leading up to one of our art shows a couple years ago Layla boldly took on creating mini clay sculptures to share at the event.

After the sale Ms. Jaime worked with Layla and her family to make a plan to spend her earnings wisely by covering her initial cost of materials and investing in more materials for future sales. Thank you to those that participated in the collaborative sale with Refind Rack and Layla! We look forward to seeing what creative wearable art Layla produces as she works to grow her jewelry business!

Since early last year Layla has been making necklaces and earrings by hand. Her first opportunity to share her work with the public came in August at the first Refind Rack where she was a vendor selling her butterfly necklaces . Since then she continued to work on her jewelry and started making clay earrings. The materials for these newer creations were purchased with funds from her first sale and a little help from ACTS.

Last month Layla conducted another sale in collaboration with the Refind Rack online. Layla was fully hands-on for the entire process of this sale. She not only created the jewelry but photographed it and packed it up for buyers to receive along with hand written thank you notes. Jewelry that had to be shipped took an added level of preparation.
